WebAuth Wallet is a non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet, meaning the private keys are stored locally on your device. Because of this, it is essential to prioritize the security of your WebAuth Wallet to prevent unauthorized access or loss of funds.
Important:
- We cannot recover your private key for you. If you lose your private key, you won’t be able to access your wallet or perform transactions. We do not have the capability to assist in key recovery.
- XPR Network Blockchain (XPR) and Metal Blockchain (METAL) use separate private keys. You must back up both keys since they represent distinct wallets within the app. (Note: A seed phrase mnemonic backup for new accounts will restore both wallets.)
Overview
⚠️ Private keys cannot be obtained from the WebAuth browser wallet. You must back up your private keys via the WebAuth mobile app or immediately during the account creation process.
To access your private key, follow these steps:
- Click on the Settings icon (far right).
- Select Backup Wallet.
- Type: "I will never give my private key to anyone else."
- Your private key will then be displayed.
Security Measures
- Never share your private key, mnemonic phrase, or account details with anyone, including third parties or individuals claiming to offer support.
- Never connect your wallet to any application or service other than Metal X or XPR Network apps.
- Metallicus staff will never ask for your private key. Sharing your private key exposes your funds to theft, and lost funds cannot be recovered.
Best Practices for Securing Your Private Key
-
Store offline in a secure location:
- Use a physical notebook or an encrypted USB drive to back up your key and store it somewhere safe.
-
Use a hardware wallet (air-gapped device):
- This is the most secure option for storing your private key offline.
-
Use a password manager with 2FA and encryption:
- For those who prefer digital storage, ensure the manager is protected by two-factor authentication (2FA) and is encrypted.
⚠️ Note: XPR Network staff do not have access to your private key and cannot recover it if lost. Triple-check your backup for accuracy to ensure you do not lose access to your funds permanently.
