WebAuth Wallet is a non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet, which means your private keys are stored directly on your device. It's really important to keep your WebAuth Wallet secure to avoid any unauthorized access or potential loss of funds.
Important:
- We can't recover your private key for you. If you happen to lose it, you won't be able to access your wallet or make transactions. Unfortunately, we don't have the ability to help with key recovery.
- XPR Network Blockchain (XPR) and Metal Blockchain (METAL) each use their own private keys. Make sure to back up both keys, as they correspond to different wallets in the app. (Just a note: A seed phrase mnemonic backup for new accounts will restore both wallets.)
Overview
⚠️ Remember, private keys can't be obtained from the WebAuth browser wallet. You need to back them up using the WebAuth mobile app or right at the time of account creation.
To find your private key, just follow these steps:
- Click on the Settings icon (on the far right).
- Select Backup Wallet.
- Type: "I will never give my private key to anyone else."
- Your private key will then be shown to you.
Security Measures
- Never share your private key, mnemonic phrase, or account details with anyone, including third parties or those claiming to offer help.
- Never connect your wallet to any app or service outside of Metal X or XPR Network apps.
- Metallicus staff will never ask for your private key. Sharing it puts your funds at risk, and lost funds can't be recovered.
Best Practices for Securing Your Private Key
-
Store offline in a secure location:
- Consider using a physical notebook or an encrypted USB drive to back up your key and keep it safe.
-
Use a hardware wallet (air-gapped device):
- This is the safest way to store your private key offline.
-
Use a password manager with 2FA and encryption:
- If you prefer digital storage, make sure the manager is secured with two-factor authentication (2FA) and encryption.
⚠️ Note: XPR Network staff do not have access to your private key and can't help recover it if it's lost. Please double-check your backup for accuracy to ensure you don't lose access to your funds permanently.
