This support guide provides answers to Frequently Asked Questions.
Q: What if I lose one of my keys?
You can still access your account with the remaining two keys. Replace the lost key immediately to maintain 2-of-3 access.
Q: Can I use someone else as a third signer?
Yes, but only use someone you fully trust. They will have co-signing authority over your account.
Q: Can I remove or replace a signer later?
Yes. Use the remaining two keys to update your account permissions.
Q: Does multisig cost any XPR?
No fees are charged, but your account must have enough staked CPU/NET to submit the permission update.
Q: Can I use different wallets for each signer?
Yes. You can use WebAuth, Anchor, hardware wallets, or others. Just make sure you retain access to at least two keys.
Q: Is 2-of-3 multisig more secure than a strong password?
Yes. A password protects one key. Multisig requires multiple independent approvals, making unauthorized access much harder.
Q: Can I reuse the same key for multiple signers?
Technically yes, but it undermines the security. Each signer should be a unique account with its own private key.
Q: What if I only have access to one signer?
You’ll be locked out. You need at least two valid keys to make changes or approve transactions.
Q: Should I apply 2-of-3 to both Owner and Active permissions?
Yes. Active controls daily actions; Owner controls account recovery. Protect both for full security.
Q: Do all three signer accounts need XPR or resources?
No. Only the account being modified needs resources. Signer accounts only need CPU/NET if they initiate transactions.
Q: Can I change to 3-of-5 or other setups later?
Yes. The permission system is flexible. As long as two current signers approve, you can adjust keys and thresholds.
Q: Is multisig like using a hardware wallet?
Not exactly. Multisig adds shared control; hardware wallets secure individual keys. Use both for maximum security.
Q: Will multisig slow down my transactions?
Possibly. Actions need two approvals, which may require switching devices or waiting on a co-signer.
Q: Is there a UI for multisig setup?
Not yet. Use tools like Bloks.io or the Greymass Authority Generator. UI support is planned.
